At Advanced Fitness and Wellness, not only do we care about your physical health, but your mental health. Both facets work hand-in-hand with one another and impact how you feel on an everyday basis. Millions of Americans face the harsh reality of what it’s like to live with a mental illness on a daily basis. Here are some tips from our fitness center near Riverdale, NJ to help you take care of your mental health.

Of course, exercising is one of the best ways to help clear your mind and release positive endorphins. Exercise has been proven time and time again to be a helpful tool in combating anxiety, stress and depression. Even a workout as little as 30 minutes is beneficial to your mental health.

Eat Well

What you put into your body will have a huge impact on the way that you feel. Trying extreme diets is only something that can last for a short period of time. Instead, try making healthy eating a lifestyle rather than a fad. Carbs and healthy fats are not bad for you; rather, they can help fuel your body, especially before or after a workout. Giving your body the fuel that it needs can make all of the difference to your mental health!

Write It Out

Do you ever stop and think about all of the positive things in your life? Gratitude is a great way to acknowledge all of the good things going on in your life and boost your mental state. Set a goal for yourself to journal 2-3 times per week and list all of the things that make you happy.

Stay in the Present

This is easier said than done, but staying focused on the present moment is a helpful way to allow your brain to process one thought at a time. Bring a level of awareness to everyday activities that you didn’t have before.
